"Those comfortable with putting
their higher mental processes on hold for a couple of joyous hours
of wanton, unrepentant violence won't be disappointed." - So
said one AJC reporter, and they could not be closer to the truth.
I like Vin Diesel. I like his movies. He is a likeable personality,
because girls find him attractive, guys don't find his looks unattainable,
like Arnold or Van Damme, and he appeals across multicutural lines
as well. He has refused to claim an ethnicity, is he black, white,
Mexican, American, Who knows, and he won't tell.
That said, he could not have worse movies written for him, at least
to showcase his acting. That may not be what he is going for, and
if money is his aim, he hit it on target. He will be making around
$20 million a picture now.
The dialogue in this movie at one point made my brain jump out of
my head, smack me, and try to drag me to the door. Luckily the eye-candy,
i.e. the girl, the guns, the cars, and the explosions, made me stay.
It was the same with Fast and Furious. The only good movie he has
"acted" in was Boiler Room. He can deliver the lines well
if someone writes them for him. Unfortunately he keeps picking these
mediocre scripts which will work for a while as eye candy, but if
he keeps it up, he will go the ways of the Van Dammes, the Segals,
and The Schwartzeneggarseses's (spelling?).
All in all, as I said in the beginning, not a bad movie, and if
you can overlook that it is made at a third grade mentality, a great
shoot em up.
I look forward to his two projects coming up, Hannibal and Chronicles
of Riddick (sequel to Pith Black) oh not to mention xXx 2.
